My name is Curt Thacker and I’m located in southern New Jersey. I’ve been building on and off for the past 34 years or so. I started out on the old 1/48th scale Aurora and Bandai kits. (Wish I still had them!) When I was around 10 years old I discovered HO model railroading. For a 10 year old the difference between 1/87th scale and 1/76 - 1/72nd scale wasn’t a worry. I built many of the old Airfix 1/76 kits and mixed them in with my HO trains. I remember the first diorama I built. In 4th grade I built a 4’ x 4’ diorama of a ficticious WW2 battle. Somehow I convinced my father to help me get this monstrosity to school to enter in our “Curriculum Fair” where I won first place in the history category. It had a huge mix of parts and scales. If I remember correctly there were several elements from some of the old Airfix and Aurora play sets. I know that my father took pictures of it. Hopefully one of these days the pictures will turn up (this was back in the days when everyone took slides. Tough to go through 35+ boxes just to find a couple of pictures.)
Soon after this I moved onto 1/72nd scale aircraft and built these exclusively for the next 30 years or so. Many of the kits I built were donated to various museums when I was in my early 30’s.
A couple of years ago I discovered armor modeling again and have been building when time allowed.
After several years as a structural engineer I decided that it was time to go to work for myself in order to have more time for my family. I now own a small construction company which specializes in custom cabinetry. You can see some of my cabinet work and read more about me at my other website Thacker Construction.
